Airy and Bright Residence in Cyprus: Adamos Residence
Designed by Paphos-based architecture firm VardaStudio, the house you are about to see is located in the second-largest city in Cyprus – Limassol. Spread over 650 square meters, the living spaces that make up the Adamos Residence were divided to fit on three floors. Elegant intersecting volumes create a contemporary residential architecture highlighted by the use of wood insertions on the white facade. The extended summer season in Cyprus allows the inhabitants to enjoy many days filled with natural light in the back garden. The yard and the garage were divided by a selection of rectangular pieces of wall, creating a visual delimitation that completes the landscape in a unique way. The interiors keep the same design lines seen on the outside, but the bold accents used as decorative elements throughout the house exploit a slightly artistic design. A double-height living room thrones in the middle of the residence, creating a gathering space for the family and friends. Large windows and extensive use of glass in the interior design – especially for delimitating purposes – create corridors for the natural light. Bright and modern, the Adamos Residence plays with volumes and light to offer the perfect background for its inhabitant’s lifestyle.

Chiang Mai Now!: Northern Lights
Staff Writer
The Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC) is currently hosting Chiang Mai Now!, an exhibition that highlights a series of events, activities and experiments relating to contemporary culture in Chiang Mai. Curated by Angkrit Ajchariyasophon, the exhibition presents the unique perspectives of 12 artists and contemporary cultural activists from the regional city.
The works on display illustrate various attempts to challenge the conditions and limitations presented by a rapidly changing society.
Building Solutions
North Forest Studio, an architectural studio established by Chulaphorn Nuntapanich, a visiting lecturer at Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Architecture, demonstrates a compromise relating to the use of natural resources through an architectural paradigm. A set of architectural models created by Chulaphorn’s students highlight designs based on forms originating in nature, incorporating local beliefs and aimed at minimizing electricity usage.
Making Things Happen
PunPun is a project generated by Jone Jundai, who established a 'sustainable living and learning' center, while promoting the use of homes built from mud bricks nationwide. The exhibit includes 300 bricks made from a mix of mud, manure and eggplant seeds. It's possible to cultivate an eggplant from one of these bricks if you place it in the sun and water it regularly. The message underlining this work is that if we want change, we simply need to make it happen.
Lanna Bird and Nature Conservation Club exhibits images of their activities as part of the exhibition through the medium of photography and visual art. The aim of this presentation is to provoke a public discourse about animal rights and generate an improved level of understanding regarding nature and the environment.
Freedom of Expression
Yonyang and Friends (also known as Retracing Aesthetics and Friends) is a firm that organizes a variety of events, including 'food settlements' and various participatory forms of art, under the concept of ‘Art Incites the Imagination’, which includes a compilation of works of art, music and entertainment produced by Torlarp Larpjaroensook and his activist and artist friends.
The land foundation is an agricultural organization, aimed at creating an experimental base for ‘next generation’ artists by combining a meditative technique while creating works of art. The works on display in this area were provided by 24 artists. The foundation hopes to be able to generate funds to support its organization, using the art works as an instrument to facilitate cultural activities.
Chiang Mai Sunday Cycling Club exhibits images that demonstrate its determination to influence public policy, promote safety and generate support for the use of bicycles. The club presents videos about local cyclists and includes details about their campaigns.
Panya Movie Club is presenting movies created by 12 different directors. The films selected reflect societal problems and question changes taking place within Thai society. Other participating artists and cultural activists featured in Chiang Mai Now! include: ComPeung (featuring Jai Arun Ravine), Malateh Media Studio, 31st Century Museum of Contemporary Spirit, Rabbithood Studio and DOM-CU-MEN-TA-RY.
'Related' Events
Chiang Mai Now! will continue through June 19 on the ninth floor of the BACC. While the exhibition is taking place, several related activities will also be held, including film discussions, organized by Panya Movie Club, birdwatching trips, organized by Lanna Bird and Nature Conservation Club, as well as a seminar relating to future policies regarding 'bicycle cities', organized by Chiang Mai Sunday Cycling Club.
BACC opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm (it is closed on Mondays).
